We’ve been traveling again after spending a very nice week end at Regatta Point Marina in Deltaville. The Virginia Yacht club was kicking off their cruising season with a weekend at Regatta Point. We met lots of really nice folks and they gave us some great ideas on points of interest in the Chesapeake.

Friday we heard a boat the Katy Leigh calling the marina. We had met them in October at Aqua Yacht Harbor on our first leg of this journey. We had dinner together and a few bottles of wine. The conversation was fun and it’s always good to meet up with fellow "Loopers".

We were going to leave Deltaville on Monday. That was not to be. We had dinner with Craig and Jack Dozier Sunday evening. They hope to cruise the Loop in the next year (or so) and they are fellow marina owners. Again, one of the best parts of this trip has been the people we’ve met along the way. During dessert it started blowing and raining and never stopped thru the night. Guess what-it continued all day Monday. Not a good day to cruise!

We hoped Tuesday would clear off. We awoke to sunny blue skies but the wind was still blowing about 25 knots. It was supposed to lay down in the afternoon. By 11 o’clock AM the wind was blowing even harder. The boat was rolling so much we decided to sit in the lounge and wait it out. I had about given up but about noon the wind seemed calmer so we decided to give it a try.

The first part of the trip was in 2 to 3 foot seas but not near as bad as our trip to Deltaville. When we got close to the mouth of the Potomac the north winds were blowing down the Potomac and the waves picked up for an hour or so. After we passed the Potomac the water calmed to less than one foot. Now that’s how I like to cruise. The temperature was warming up and more boats were testing the water.

Our destination was the Solomon’s in Maryland. What a beautiful spot. The town and harbor are how I imagined the towns of Chesapeake Bay to be. We stayed at a great marina, Zahniser Yacht Center. Sail boats are definitely the majority but we had a great spot at the back of the marina and for the first time in several days we were in calm waters. We also enjoyed a great meal at their restaurant “The Dry Dock”.

Wednesday we spent the day enjoying the blue skies and the sights of the Solomons. They have a wonderful Maritime Museum! Their displays focused on the fishing industry, the history of the area and the progress in ship building. They also have a restored lighthouse on the grounds. (Sandy-this picture is for you)

Today we cruised to St. Michaels Marina in the Eastern Bay of the Chesapeake. The wind was down today compared to our travels so far. The day was beautiful and sunny. I actually enjoyed cruising on the Chesapeake today. We’re planning on staying here for the week end and then on to Annapolis.
