We’re still in Annapolis but we thought you might enjoy some pictures of the Naval Academy. We walked to the campus this morning. I’m glad we went today. It was the last day of exams and most were going home until graduation week starting May 21. There were lots of white uniforms all over town.

We went on a tour that turned out to be just Bob and me with the guide. We found our many tidbits about the Academy and everyday life on campus.

The picture of the Bob and the Billy Goat mascot was the start of the tour. The Academy keeps 3 goats in training in case Army decides to steal a goat before a big game. There is still a back up.

When we came into the harbor yesterday we saw the training boat going out into the Bay. According to our guide every midshipman has 6 weeks of sea training. They all also have to know how to swim. By the end of their training the midshipman will be able to jump from a 40+ foot tower in full gear and be able to survive for several hours to days in the water.

The picture of the building that looks like a palace is the dorm. It’s not fancy inside. No air conditioning, 2 to a room, sparse furnishing. All of the midshipmen live in the dorm.

The rest of the pictures are of faculty housing. Military instructors serve for 3 years and live in these homes 2 families to a building. In case you missed them the flamingos have when it returns this summer.

The picture with the green striped awning is the school superintendent’s home. He and his family get the top 2 floors. The rest is for public receptions and functions. The garden is beautiful and full of spring flowers.

The campus is beautiful and well kept. The midshipmen (male and female) are courteous and helpful not to mention well groomed. I almost forgot the Chapel is beautiful. They have protestant and catholic services daily. We went back this afternoon to take pictures. There was a funeral this morning. I’m glad we took the tour. There is lots of history here and the museums have tons of memorabilia.
