June 26, 2004

We're are officially in the blank zone now. My only access is thru the library. Right now I'm sitting in the Peterboro, Ontario library sending this message.

We travelled from Canpbellford on Monday. Seven locks. The day was beautiful but by 11 the wind picked up and the weather was predicitng bigger and bigger weather so we decide to find a place at Rice Lake and lay over hopefully to fish.

We stayed at Audley's Cove just across the lake from the entrance to the next river on our way up the Trent Severn. We tied up facing the wind ready to blow all night but by 9 PM the wind calmed and no rain. What a surprise. On Tuesday the skies were overcast but no rain so Bob struck out in the dinghy to fish. The wind picked up a couple of times while he was out but nothing exciting. The lake is fairly shallow and very weedy. Walleye and muskie are the sport fish. All Bob got were nibbles and small panfish. Nothing to bring home for cooking. Fortunately I made reservations for dinner at the Victorian Inn just up the drive from the marina. It's a pretty old Inn and the food was tasty.

We filled our water tanks and moved on Wednesday forning. We had planned to anchor out that night but again the wind was blowing so we decided to motor on to Peterboro. The waterway is beautiful. It is a mix of cottages and greenery. There were times during the day I felt we were the only people on earth. We did pass two boats going the opposite was but no one going our way.

We only had one lock to do that day right before Peterboro. The door was closing just as we got close so on the Blue Line we tied. Our new Canadian friends were locking thru ahead of us. Cocktails on their boat in an hour was the battlecry.

The marina here is right in town close to lots of shopping and restaurants. We were supposed toleave the boat here for our trip home but that apparantly is not ment to be. Plan B is still under construction.

Yesterday Bob and I did a walking tour of a radius of 5 miles from the boat. Good exercise! We are on a hunt for a postcard of a Royal Canadian Mounted Policeman per Taylor's request. Would you believe in our many stops no Mounties. It seems they have been replaced as the symbol of Canada with a beaver, moose or wolf. What a surprise!

We had dinner with our Canadian friends. During dinner the heavens opened and poured rain. We all cam back to our boat for a toddy and dry quarters. They left today bound for Georgian Bay. We hope to hook up again while they are putting their mast up and ready to sail the Georgian Bay.

Bob's working in the engine room today getting the seaweed out of the strainers and I'm on the Mountie hunt again. We're going home next Wednesday. I'll send entry 32 with pictures from there. We'll be back on the waterway after July 15th.

Hope to see some of you in Eddyville.
