We're spending our 4th day in Frankfort, MI. We traveled from
Petosky to Charlevoix to Northport to here. The first two
trips were windy taking west winds from 3 to 5 feet on our
starboard side. I was happy each time when we tied up in the
marina.
On Saturday we left Northport. The water was beautiful and
flat for Lake Michigan. We bypassed Leland and came into
Frankfort. We've had rain since Sunday and wind non stop
pushing the rain front through.
Yesterday the Coast Guard was at the mouth of the harbor
turning boats back to the harbor. We could see the waves
crashing over the breakwater. This morning the wind is not
quite as strong but the Coast Guard says 6 to 8 feet. (That
means yesterday must have been more the 8 feet. I'm happy to
stay here till the front passes.
Three other "Loopers" pulled in Sunday that we have met along
the way so we've had fun trading stories and pictures.
Yesterday Bob made chili and we all gathered in the boater's
lounge and had dinner and watched the evening storm roll in.
The surf continued to entertain us and the clouds promised a
show of some kind. When we got back to the boat we saw on the
news a severe thunderstorm with hail was in the vicinity of
Charlevoix. Shortly after we got a rain storm that poured
buckets of rain but no hail.
The wind blew all night last night and I am still dizzy from
the rocking. I'm writing this from the Frankfort library just
to get off of the boat for awhile and maybe regain my balance.
The temperature is in the 50's. My tan is fading from being
covered with long sleeves and jeans. I guess this is penance
for the warm sunny winter we spent in Florida.
We'll keep you updated on our progress. I'm still not in
Verizon network coverage so the pictures will be delayed
again.
We've met lots of people along our journey and hope to see
many of them when we return in the fall. |
