What a lazy week! We got our hair cut and grocery shopping done and that’s about it. The wind has been blowing our cold front thru but the temperatures have been in the 60’s (not the teens or below).

The tourists have arrived bringing lots of automobile and boat traffic. The marina is nearly full with boats from the north and south. February and March are peak tourism months here. People-watching abounds and several community activities like art shows are planned.

Bob and I have been perfecting our crossword puzzle skills and frequenting the library. We’re conserving our paper back books for our cruising times.

The library here is great. I was a little surprised at the number of large print books. Talk about meeting the needs of the community.  The library was really helpful when Taylor was here. We borrowed lots of tapes and books keeping him occupied in the non-beach times. I do miss that little guy! I wonder if Tim and Val could put him in their suitcase when they come south.

Bill and Sandy are coming to visit next week. We have a day (and night) planned in Key West. There are so many sights and bars to visit. I didn’t want to drive back to Islamorada after seeing all those sights.

I’m waiting for sunshine right now. We have a few repairs to make on the boat and then we can play this week end.

We’ve been here one month. The locals told me February was the best month of the year. So far they’ve been correct.

Friday through Sunday was full of rain. (In some places 5 inches.) Sunday afternoon the sun finally peaked thru the clouds and then stayed partly sunny the rest of the day.

We did manage a visit to the local art show on Saturday in between rain drops. We managed to find a few things to add to the décor of Oil & Water. My favorite is a watercolor of a sailboat done on a navigation chart page from this area.

On Sunday, we went to church to say thank you for the Carney’s safety after their accident and to say hello to our Kuttawa neighbor who is now preaching and living in Islamorada. It started raining about 9 am and rained continuously until 12 noon. We waded thru standing water in the parking lot then drove thru water mid wheel a block to HWY.1. Their storm sewer lines are not coming soon enough.

We also went to the local movie to see “Calendar Girls”, It was a funny movie, but I think especially so for those of us over 50.

The weatherman says this week is going to be high’s of 80 and nights of 60’s. When I look at the rest of the country I’m glad we’re here. We have started planning our east coast trip. I love being here but I will be ready to move again.

When we talked to Taylor this week he invited us to his birthday party. He said he hasn’t seen us for “30 Years”. Talk about feeling bad. I was ready to go home right then. We will see you in early April.

Enjoy the pictures. There may be a few spaces at Plantation Yacht next year.
